Plan ahead for medical needs over Xmas holiday

Thursday 21st December, 2017

People are reminded to make sure they know where they can get medical treatment over Christmas in time for the festive Bank holidays.

Over the festive period most pharmacists and GP surgeries will be closed so the local NHS is advising residents to plan ahead, stock up medicine cabinets and make sure they use the right service for their medical needs if they get ill, freeing up emergency care for those most in need.

NHS 111 is available all day every day and the NHS website is available to check symptoms online around the clock. No appointment necessary to see a local pharmacist and most have private consultation areas, and will say if you need further medical attention.

“While we want everyone to enjoy Xmas in good health, if you do get ill there are a raft of NHS services there to treat you over the festive period.

“Using the alternative services to hospitals and GPs when appropriate will free up A&E Departments to provide vital care for life-threatening emergencies, meaning doctors can help those in most need swiftly.”
